Magazine Bowl

As you can see, this little bowl is made from magazine pages. Got the idea from the internets when looking for something cool to do my students and some old magazines. I'd never seen them before but a lot of people make them apparently. It really is surprisingly tough - if I were you I'd hope that I'll make you one as a present. Anyway - am going to try some variations on this when I get time - what else could I make I wonder?

Just Desserts.

I've been photographing
cakes a lot lately and have started making desserts out of all the plastic lids, buttons and beads I collect. I am trying to make things that remind me of my childhood, so I suppose these are inspired by things such as Tupperware, plastic toys from the 70's and 80's and outings to Miss Maud with my mum. These days I prefer a fruit cake. Takes one to know one I guess.

I like colours.

After buying a book on Melinda Harper (I could eat these paintings), I started painting this canvas so I didn't feel too lazy last holidays. It ended up taking forever and Mervyn kept the criticisms coming thick and fast, despite the rumours that he is in fact, colour blind.

Bed Time

Check out my work on the
Learning To Love You More
website. I'm sure you'll want to have a go at at least one of the assignments yourself.
So far I've completed assignments 9, 11, 16, 27, 32, 42, 50, 53 & 55.

The paper and cardboard replica of my bed pictured was made for #16. It was right up my alley though, as I've always made beds ou
t of paper.

Plants.

I made these two little seedling punnets and the flowers over the Christmas holidays but I've been a bit slack about posting this. I am, in fact a terrible gardener and I'm not exactly sure yet why I made them but I'm sure it has something to do with my mother being an avid gardener (and sewer) and dragging me along to plant nurseries as a child. I was thinking about her a lot at the time.

COLLECTED WORKS

Collected Works.
Drawings By Anne Farrell.
Keith & Lottie Gallery. June 4 – June 20 2008.

Most people collect something. Some are fanatical about collecting, and some don’t even realise they collect things.

For many years I have found enjoyment in the discovery of small objects. I keep certain small things because they remind me of something, they look like I could make something from them, they describe the way I feel about something better than words, they look purposeful, belonged somewhere, to some one at some time, they have a hidden narrative. They appeal to me. Many of them I don’t know why.

Recently I noticed some similarities in the sort of objects I choose to keep. I made a list describing each object I have collected over the years, and began doing drawings of some of these objects.

This is an exhibition of some of the drawings I have made of these collected objects. Each drawing depicts the actual size and colour of the object. They are often drawn onto other things I have collected, such as scraps of paper and card, small cardboard boxes and pieces of wood.

My collection of drawings interests me more now than the original objects. When assembled together they have a definite affinity with one another and I now feel they are in many ways autobiographical.
